Virginia shooting: Multiple casualties

Appomattox, Virginia has become the unlikely scene of a brutal shooting rampage. Reports suggest that a long gunman has attacked a number of people, leaving several dead and more wounded.

The incident began on Tuesday, when a man was found injured by the side of a stretch of road in the countryside of Virginia. Police investigated, and found a suspect, however they were then fired upon.

A police helicopter was scrambled to deal with the incident, however it was then fired upon by the suspect, who fled. The chopper was hit several times and was forced to land with holes in its fuel system, however nobody was hurt.

Police from surrounding regions have been called in to help attempt to apprehend the shooter, and reports suggest that he has now been surrounded by upwards of one hundred law enforcement officers. These police are said to be armed, and they have signalled that they are confident the situation is no contained.

Appomattox is roughly one hundred miles away from Richmond, the capital of Virginia. This sleepy countryside region has been shocked by this eruption of violence, and it will once again bring to light questions about gun laws in America, and the safety of the population.
