The Super Bowl Halftime Show 2011

Many of the Americans who will be tuning to the Super Bowl on Sunday will be more interested to watch Super Bowl Halftime Show 2011 then then game itself. It’s a strange phenomenon that has over the years become a fabric of American culture and tradition. We preview what you can expect for the 2011 SuperBowl Halftime show including the performances and artists scheduled to perform.

Super Bowl Halftime Show 2011

The main performance in the Super Bowl 2011 halftime show is the Black Eyed Peas. It’s not your traditional Super Bowl half time performance, with rock legends usually more in tune with the NFL demographic. However Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas are as mainstream as it gets, and that’s what the Super Bowl is all about – appealing to the whole nation as opposed to the hardcore American football fans. They also have some experience performing in this colossal event, so they can refine their trade and put on a great show as the lead act.

Another huge name set to perform in the 2011 Super Bowl halftime show is Usher, the R&B megastar who is known to put great shows during big sporting events.

If you’re looking for some classic rock & roll then worry not as Slash will be performing as well. The former lead guitarist of Guns N Roses will aim to rock the stadium that’s expected to have over 100,000 people present.

The Bridgestone Super Bowl Halftime show 2011 will feature the Prairie View A&M University Marching Storm to warm the crowd to the big occasion.

What do you think of the 2011 SuperBowl 45 Halftime show? Is it a bit light on rock, or is the transition to a balanced show more suitable for some of the casual fans who just tune in to watch Super Bowl Halftime Show 2011?

  • Believe it or not, this was the first Super Bowl I’ve ever watched and that was because my kids wanted to watch it. The halftime show was simply horrid. I hope this isn’t the norm. Poor Guns n Roses. I bet Usher was embarrassed. It was one of those shows that has the viewer sliding farther and farther down in her seat out of humiliation for those on stage.

    • Wow! Wow! It was like a Britney Spears video I saw once where they played what she was actually singing as she danced, not what the crowd heard. I felt like we weren’t supposed to be hearing it, like they accidentally left the microphones on.
I was at a Casino and kept looking around “Am I the only one who is horrified by this?” I felt like one of the comments above, sliding into my seat further with humiliation for those on stage.

    • You honestly dont seem to understand the new music variety out there. I believe your from the STONE age because they did really good and slash did great. But you know this is wisdom from a 15 year old.

  • This was the worst ever. What a waste of time!! They sucked ! Why cant They just get a good band and let them sing a couple of Their songs maybe like Aerosmith or something.

  • This was the worst ever!! That was not music. Bring back Rock-n-Roll.

  • I hate to say this, but in my opinion that had to be the worst half time show I have ever seen. Give me Old Time Rock and Roll, That was Techno Hip Hop BS, Not Rock…..

  • that show made my face sad :(

  • From a sound techy and musician …. TERRIBLE!!!!! Don’t know if BEPs are not good live or what? Slash was great but they had him cut on. In their defense, the technical side was a disaster. Usher was not mixed properly. Microphones were not on, the sound mixed was terrible, lights were malfuctioning (the V of LOVE was 3/4 off among other things.) Looked like a group of good perfromers but they need to fire the technical pepole!!!

  • Usher was the best…..WOW….He SUCKED…….So the rest SUCKED even WORSE……..The Halftime show made me sick…….I had to put away all the snacks………I want a refund check from the NFL for all I layed out for the party. Not to mention my new illness…….I figure….about $50K ought to cover it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Regina Corsi-Hagen

      Hey Tony,
I really enjoyed your comment on the whole halftime ordeal. I laughed my ass off and I probably would have if I actually saw the show..but we had technical difficulties with the cable so we missed it…but figuring from your comments it was shitty..your right man…go back to rock-n-roll!!

  • Man, it was terrible. Will.i.am was so ridiculously autotuned I found it hil.ar.ious. Fergie did her best Axel Rose impression (sounding more like present day Axel). Worst of all was apl.de.ap who sounded like one of those American Idol contestants where the judges can’t stop laughing. I also found the censorship funny. “Super ape-” I mean c’mon! At least say something else! Don’t just leave it empty! And just when I thought it couldn’t get worse, Usher came down from the heavens on a pole and they sang maybe the worst song ever written. All in all, it was quite enjoyable…for the wrong reasons.

  • What ‘s up??? Did you only print the negatives?? BEP is awesome and the show was great (notwithstanding technical difficulties, which can’t be attributable to the performers. Best half time show since McCCartney. There’s a reason BEP’s concerts are always sold out!

    • Do you even know what music is. They didn’t even play their own songs, play any instruments, OR CARRY A TUNE. The vary concept of music should be ashamed. :(

    • Still a terrible show. I agree that it was probably mostly technical incompetence from lighting effects, sound mix, staging lighting etc., etc. , etc. so no dis to the performers. The point is a Super Bowl show should not require the viewer to imagine what it might have been be like if there was professional sound and lighting support. Fire the techinal crew!!!

      • I couldn’t agree more. “The point is a Super Bowl show should not require the viewer to imagine what it might have been be like if there was professional sound and lighting support. Fire the techinal crew!!!” I want to see it happen. I want to see a show… the show these preformers where HIRED to do.

        • Look since Super Bowl XXXIX the NFL, after the Janet wardrobe malfunction, had seeked “safe” acts in the hope nothing like that would ever happen again. In the process after signing legendary rock artists they, in turn, built up the prestige on performing what is considered the ‘Grandest Stage Of Them All.’ In my opinion, and it’s only an opinion, hip-hop has no place anywhere near the halftime show. That genre of music has a lot of baggage from booty dancers, baggy clothes, and a thug look nobody with common scence looks up to. The BEP’s are a mix of techno and hip-hop and therein lies the problem, not with what I listed above but with sound problems and execution of the performance. The Peas are talented in the studio but I knew at Thanksgiving it was gonna be bad cause I’d seen them perform live on tv and it’s always been worse than before. The 4 of them were lined neatly in a row and the stage looked oddly empty like there was supposed to be a band behind them. We couldn’t hear the audio track cause we at home weren’t fed the track. If there was a band the instruments would’ve been mic’d. If the NFL wanted a young act why not go for Lady Gaga? She can play a instument, she’s young, and she can carry a tune while dancing. There’s Taylor Swift too or why not a country artist? It was in Texas after all? But I feel old fashion rock and roll is the way to go. There was a lot of cries from the hip-hop world of “why do you have to be an old guy with a guitar to be at the SB?” Well because they just sound better, they’re louder, more intense, they don’t curse, and they have a reputation that sets them on the pedistule to perform on such a stage. Well hip-hop, you had your chance and it wasn’t pretty. Even Usher couldn’t save it and that’s saying something. You need star power. The Peas aren’t star power and I doubt they’ll ever ‘get there,’ I just don’t see it happening. Maybe in another 15 years but in the meantime how about some Eagles, Elton John, Kiss, John Cougar, Def Leppard, ZZ-Top, but we all want the big one, don’t we? We want AC/DC!!!! C’mon NFL, don’t let us down. AC/DC will rock the Super Bowl like nobody else before or after.

    • Regina Corsi-Hagen

Hey huney..you cant compare anyone to McCartney…he’s legendary…not sickondary or secondary if you will….bring back rock- n -roll!!

      • THANK GOD…You Said It!!! NO ONE..I MEAN NO-ONE Will EVER Compare To Legendrary PAUL MCARTNEY!!! Hey, I didn’t even watch the game. Reason? NO SUBSTABCE During The Half Time! BEP, Please! We need the Fabulous Rock n’ Roll Classics BACK!!

    • Terrible show. Just awful. They made last year’s fiasco by the Who seem great by comparison. I cannot believe that people actually pay money to see these awful performers.

    • Here’s some positive feedback for you Deeann :)

      What went well:
-Fergie wasn’t “fall off the stage” drunk.
      -The outfits all matched.
-the lights were pretty, and flashy and mostly worked.
-Usher didn’t end his career with that jump-split…
-Slash played the intro to “Sweet Child” really well.
-the tech difficulties cut out a lot of Fergie’s vocals.
-I blacked out midway through because of trauma to my inner ear, but woke up just in time for the 3rd quarter.
-Axl Rose found out he wasn’t the worst singer in the world.

  • HORRIBLE 1/2 TIME SHOW!! Awfulllll Awfullll.

  • Worst ever…sucked big time…where’s the talent???

  • Good thing I got this on my DVR…….Next time I need to throw up…..just hit play……Usher and his “crew”….and all the rest……YOU SUCK!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey, can’t believe these reviews. I agree the National anthem was ‘painful’ & thought it would never end. However the BEP show was fantastic and I danced the
    entire way through.

  • The show was cool fergie was horrid tho she just screamed the whole time and wrost lip singing by the way but the light up thing and people were really cool other then that it wasn’t great, I wonder what they are like in there own concerts, are they worse? Better?

  • This is actually the first half time show I wanted to watch in years. I am glad the NFL finally has diversity in their performers and put on a show people actually wanted to see. As far as technical difficulty, ask Jerry, it’s his world. You guys are way to serious, enjoy the game!

    • So we need diversity not talent? Who cares what color they are. Just put up talented people. As far as BEP go. I have worked with them an several Corp gigs. They have always sounded great. I am not a fan but can give them a thumbs up in the past. It was Tech issues. I could see them struggle in the first half. It seemed they had no monitors and the delays were messing them up. Many other tech issues just kept making it worse.

  • That almost made me wish The Who was playing again

  • I rarely comment on these blogs etc….but before half time they said “don’t miss this performance as it is one of the best”….what a bunch of hogwash. It stunk!! Could not understand the words they were putting out and you call that entertainment. Waste of money and waste of my precious time at this age. DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!i AM OLD and not interested too much in the football scene, but made sure was going to watch half-time. EL STINKO!!!

  • Awful, just awful. I’m 55 and have seen every Superbowl. No expert on entertainment but I like all kinds of music so no bias there.
    Painful to watch.

  • I have seen forty of the forty-five Super Bowls games. This was the worse halftime show, no talent, tech problems and overall a poorly designed theme. Sorry, what theme, disjointed trash that someone was actually paid well to torture the viewing public. I never comment online, but really has our society reached a new low where such trash is now a reflection of this country. By the way, Christina you could bother to learn the words next time!

  • It was like watching a bad car wreck. It was so terrible but I just couldn’t turn away. That garbage doesn’t belong at the Superbowl.

  • That was the worst super bowl performance ever. Bring back Classic Rock!!! The Who were stellar last year, Petty, Springsteen, McCartney and The ‘Stones all were exceptional. How can people call the BEP’s music, its sounds like crap. I wouldn’t mind of newer act, but can it atleast be a BAND, not just someone terrible overrated people who can’t sing for their lives. I’m disgusted the Half-Time show has come to this. To anyone who says the Who was boring, you have no Idea that they are one of the best known bands of all time. I’m fed up with autotuned crap.

  • Forgot to mention, the set for The Fifth Element wants their clothing returned when you are through with them.

  • Worst 1/2 time ever , god that sucked , I was recording it but I deleted it just as fast as I could yuk

  • WTF was that? The NFL is still trying hard to shake off the stench of the “Wardrobe Malfunction” show several games back. It is simply unbelievable how awful this group sounded. I am not a BEP fan, hip-hop is not my style, I would have changed the channel immediately but my girlfriend threated to sever a part of my anatomy if I did. So for 30 or so minutes I had to suffer through “ear rape” and endure a sound more horrific then two chalk boards doing the horizontal hustle.

Pure Garbage NFL, at least the game was entertaining.

  • It was so bad I went outside and smoked a cigar in the cold. They were horrible. She’s got nice legs but that was the only redeeming part of the whole thing.

Oh yeah that gal really dicked up the Anthem. horrid.

  • The audio was horrid. Someone completely screwed up the mixing of the audio to the TV audience. The audio we heard was only the audio that made it through the microphones for the Black Eyed Peas, which were mixed for human voice. That’s why the music sound horrid. You didn’t hear the music as you should have, you only heard the music that filtered through their microphones.

Most artists who do performances (especially those with complex dance routines) do “sing,” but the real audio is already mixed together. You may have notices some voice modulation, but only faintly. That is because that was the mix you were supposed to hear, not the mic audio.

If they had piped the music you were supposed to hear, the half-time show would have been significantly better.

To their credit, their actual singing during the performance was significantly better than other artists who don’t even bother trying to stay on pitch, where as the Black Eyed Peas did (mostly).

You never really heard Usher when he came on stage. His mic mix was filtered out which might have made his performance seem a little better. Granted all he ended up doing for the TV audience was the job of a backup dancer.

All to say. The half-time show was the worst ever, not specifically because of the performers, but because of the shoddy audio that NOBODY caught/fixed through the entire performance.

Someone will pay dearly on Monday! I only hope the technical difficulties won’t cause the artists trouble in their future. Their future should be based on their actual talent, or lack there of as the opinion may go. It shouldn’t suffer because someone neglected to turn up the volume properly.

  • I died a little inside during that half-time show. Next year, maybe they’ll get Big Time Rush or iCarley to perform. What ever happened to MUSICIANS, performers who could play instruments and read music? Any autotune vocals signify lack of talent in my book. I’ve never seen BEPs in concert but their “performance” on Saturday Night Live was equally as bad if not worse. Yuck.

  • Sherman Travis

Big ups to PV’s Marching Storm. My alma mater represented!!!

  • I watched halftime show and laughed at the garbage performance.
I felt so bad for the performers, it was not their fault. The performers were out of their comfort zone( studios). Superbowl deserves much much much much better. Someone needs to appologies to the world for this atrocity.

  • HAHAHA i think it is so funny that people are so upset about a half tome show. A Half time is usually meant to be a break for the teams and strategy time and everyone acts like its the end of the world bc they didnt enjoy the performance. Last i thought superbowl was supposed to be about football not music.

  • I Like hip hop and r&b, but that was the worst half time show I’ve ever seen in my life. It wouldve been better if they shut off fergies mic. Whats was this girl screamin in the mic for,. just horrible! Worst EVER!

  • It is not the technical difficulties as the reason the show was so bad. First of all these people just use up good air. Proof there is no loss under estimating the intelligence of the American people. Whoever signed them up for this should be taken out back and get a good butt kicking. I will buy the boots. The only true comparison to these nasty bad is 10 miles of bad road.

  • TOTALLY LOVED IT…..

  • PVAMU absolutely crashed it last night…they were amazing…they represented….I CANT WAIT TO GET THERE!!!!

  • The sound mix was truly AWFUL! I could have done it better myself and I’m a hack! The voices were TOO LOUD, you couldn’t hear the music and then amongst the voices, ONE OF THEM, with a horrid ability to sing on key, was louder than everyone else! I love quirky Slash, but what an absurd combination…and Usher, who I do think is very talented, just plain sucked. I enjoyed watching this train-wreck thoroughly! Whoever thought this half-time show fit into the Super Bowl needs to be looking for a new job today.

  • darrel in montana

i am 58yrs. old, and have watched many halftime shows. i have enjoyed most of the. but by far, 2011 was the WORST i have ever saw!!! and that women ‘fergie’??!! my god! who ever told that women she could sing must be deaf or needs their head examined! the show was just very disappointing. glad i didn’t have to pay to see it.the game itself was very enjoyable though.

  • Yeah, the half time show(HTS) did suck King Kong balls for sure. No one I know had anything good to say about it except that the torture did come to an end and the second half was about to start. With that it dawned on me that we were watching the Super Bowl to see the game, not the half time show.

Just to note how bad the HTS was: My daughter came in and watched half of the 2nd quarter just so she could record the HTS without missing anything. About 3/4 of the way through the show, she stopped the recorder, deleted what was recorded and left the room. She came back shortly later to read me comments from a Yahoo blog about how bad the HTS was…

I have no problem with them trying to get more current bands to entertain the crowds. McCartney is great and all, but he doesn’t really reach the youth of today. BEP, Fergie & Usher don’t reach the Super Bowl attendees and many of the adult viewers (and in this case, not even their own fans). So, we need some powerful entertainers that can reach both – not too old, not too new…And not too full of themselves, either…

  • I didn’t think the half time show could get any worse and but I was proved wrong by the talentless black eyed pea’s.
If this us the best we can run out there for the LARGEST VIEWING AUDIENCE IN AMERICA we should just rerun old favorite bud light commercials. I hope bridgestone executives were watching and I hope they sue the blackeyed peas for failure to deliver a real show. Heck we could have run out a chimp and a tambourine and had a better show! But look at the upside we know know how to extract information from terrorist, just make them watch the black eyed pea’s half time show again and again till they beg to be waterboarded.

  • lawnslayer6211

That sucked…. nothing more nothing less.

  • Sharen Peterson

The half-time show was the worst I have ever seen. I thought that last years was bad but let me just say that this was the worst EVER!!!! The group, “Black Eye Peas” can they even sing on key – not one (1) note was on key. They were either singing before or behind the music. The light show was good and entertaining and good concept.

I truly feel sorry for Usher, he was the best part of the show & we didn’t get to see very much of him & only 3 minutes.

Why didn’t the commissioner get Country since it is TEXAS!!!!

  • There are a lot of classic rock groups out there that have not been represented that would put on a great superbowl show. The black eyed peas was a clear mistake. They were in Dallas for crying out loud. ZZTOP would seem an obvious choice to me. Others who would put on a great show and have not performed yet : Rush, AC/DC, Heart, ELO, Tom Petty, Springsteen, Elton John, U2….could you imagine? Not to mention Pink Floyd!, Jimmy Page, Niel Young…and while we’re at it what’s forbidden about having a country act perform? Garth Brooks would rock the house! Get it together, superbowl!

  • I think everyone here has lost their ever loving mind. This halftime show was great and everyone I was with loved it too. We even rewound it and watched it a second time. I even watched it again yesterday on my computer. Its not a pre-record show it LIVE and things are going to happen …. get alife people ….

  • Anyone who liked that 1/2 time show was on drugs, really good ones!

  • i loved the halftime show that was the greatest one yet and they all did one hell of a good job on it and i still cant stop thinking about how good they did

  • It was an AWESOME halftime show. My mom was excited to hear that the Black Eyed Peas were doing the halftime show. She enjoys danceable stuff just like me, and the halftime show was one of them.

  • There are many reasons why this was horrible, but one of them is how Fergie ruined Rock & Roll forever. God please next year don’t do something that will make us complain!
