Breaking news from the USA where word is surfacing of a shooting at the pentagon yesterday. Apparently shots were fired at the nearby metro station at 6:30pm eastern time; the station is just a few feet from the building itself.

Shooting at the Pentagon

Apparently the Pentagon was immediately put on security alert and locked down as a response to the shooting. Initial reports surfacing on news pages across the internet suggested that up to three people may have been injured. There were unconfirmed reports that two of the people injured were police officers and that the third may have been the assailant.

Later update – The shooting that took place on Thursday was believed to have been the work of John Patrick Bedell, 36, of California. It is reported that John Patrick Bedell later died of his injuries at hospital. Apparently John Patrick Bedell was trying to get into the highly fortified US defence buildings at the Pentagon. A second man, who may have accompanied the shooter, has been arrested and is being questioned by officers.
A motive for the shooting is unknown at the moment.

Further update – Good news about the officers in the shooting at the pentagon though as both apparently have escaped without serious injuries, although they were treated at hospital for grazing wounds (source: BBC).
