The Flying Tomato almost burst tonight.

On a practice run before the Winter X-Games Superpipe Finals, snowboarding superstar Shaun White had an ugly interaction with the wall of the pipe.

After executing a massive trick that sent him at least 15-20 feet out of the pipe, White misjudged the landing on his re-entry into the pipe just a tad, which resulted in him slamming his head against the top of the pipe.

At first glance, the shot that White took looked pretty gnarly. On impact, his head snapped back violently and he tumbled to the base of the pipe.

When he finally reached the bottom of the run, cameras got a closer look at the Flying Tomato’s face. Though bloodied (was it ketchup?), White had a smile on his face and appeared to still have all of his teeth. With his attitude stoked and his teeth equally stoked, White headed back to the top of the pipe to begin the competition.

A few hours later, he was a champion again. In successive runs, White showed why he is considered the Gold-Medal favorite at this year’s Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada, which will take place in just about three weeks time.
