Scott Lee Cohen, the shock Democratic candidate for Illinois Lieutenant Governor, who amazed the media and the state by being elected last week has said that he is not worried by recent news reports about his bizarre affair with a former prostitute, his arrest in 2005 and the allegations surrounding the case.

In the same month as he was accused of holding a knife to her throat four years ago, she also plead guilty to a prostitution charge in Chicago. Scott Lee Cohen claims that he thought she was merely a massage therapist.

In reality, the case was dropped against Mr Cohen, and although police did report that she had minor abrasions and what seemed to be defensive marks on her body from trying to stop an attacker, there was no more police business to be had with Mr Cohen.

He says that at that time his life was going through a lot of changes and difficulties, and in fact he had fallen in with the wrong crowd. It remains to be seen if he, in his potential role as Lieutenant Governor, will be able to live down the accusations which have been levelled against him of late.
