Rolex News/Company Profile

Olympic Gold medal winner skier Lindsay Vonn was sponsored this year in Vancouver by the luxury brand watch maker.  Rolex, a privately  held company, produces over 2000 watches a day, generating revenues of over $3 bil a year.

The company produces many varieties of watches and bands, including platinum, silver and gold faces.  The most expensive watches come with sapphires, rubies or diamonds.  They make both his and hers watches.

The company is 105 years old this year, headquartered in Geneva Switzerland.  Worldwide, it has crafted a careful image which stands for luxury, and can be found in the most expensive shops and jewelers worldwide.  The company carefully sponsors upper-crust events, such as sailing regattas, polo matches, equestrian tournaments and golf.

Athletes, businessmen and other notable celebrities whom the company hires are known as “brand ambassadors.”  (For a time, Tiger Woods was brand ambassador, before signing a $2 million deal with watchmaker rival TAG Heuer). The company slogan is “a crown for every achievement,” playing off of the brand image as a symbol of the aristocracy.  If you are lucky enough to be interested in Rolex News in 2010, the economic downturn has clearly not taken its toll on you.
