Rhode Island Flooding Update

As of yet, there are no injured and thankfully no dead, but the cost to buildings, roads and homes will be significant. The cause is the heavy rain, in March at least 15.39 inches of rain. Major Disaster has been declared in the following counties: Kent, Newport, Providence and Washington. The rainfall over recent days and weeks has meant the two major rivers, the Blackstone and Pawtuxet have both breached their banks and are pouring colossal amounts of surplus water onto the streets.

The problems of the Rhode Island floods do not end there though, as it has been predicted that further rainfall will hamper efforts to rescue and control the situation. Indeed with 6 to 10 inches of rain now predicted, people are asking that the disaster needs to be declared state-wide ensuring that financial aid for the situation comes from the federal budget. The Federal Emergency Management Agency is now controlling the relief effort and all eyes will be on these first responders in helping all Rhode Island residents stay safe.
