In a recent blog post, the Playstation 3 team has announced an all new Playstation 3 firmware update. The PS3 Update 3.41 will be “released shortly” according to the PS3 staff, with the biggest new addition being a recommendation feature within the Playstation 3 store.

Navigating through the PS3 store will be much easier and allow for discovery of items that one might like, but previously would have never considered. As many popular shopping portals have implemented in the past, the new PS3 3.41 Firmware update will add “You May Like” recommendations throughout its shop to entice users to spend more and also be matched with content they didn’t know about.

The recommendation feature is scheduled to go live at the end of July. Sony keeps on trying to improve the interface of its PS3 shop – they had recently additions such as the five star rating system. With online media portals and shops becoming so lucrative – Sony has tried to carve out its own share of the pie with these latest changes. Sony is still way behind the likes of direct competitor Microsoft and their wildly popular Xbox live market place – as well as iTunes, Amazon, and now the new Battle.net platform that has been create by Blizzard. The number 1 feature that PS3 users still want and haven’t received is the cross game chat.

Besides the PS3 Update 3.41 – the PSP 6.31 firmware update will also be released shortly according to the PS3 official blog – but will only carry minor stability upgrades.

To download the PS3 Update 3.41 – PS3 owners can follow the same method as always and while it’s not the major PS3 firmware update that they had hoped for – it is still a step towards improvement for a console that has taken its time to establish itself in the market.

Give us more PS1 classics,i live in the UK and we haven’t even got Tomb Raider. I would also like to see PS2 classics things like this would definetly make PS2 more appealing, its not the design of it for crying out loud its the content

  • there needing to hurry up and make it so we can appear offline aswell

  • casualgamer

‘i meant to put PSN more appealing’

  • And ingame music!!

  • i downloaded the update but my internet is not work now, do u know why?

  • yea agree!!

  • Or they could do something people care about, and fix the web browser >_>

  • Are you ever going to give us cross game chat Sony???????

  • We need more channels on the tv section because bbc i player is the worst 1 we need 4od and sky player ( like xbox)

  • give us a new layout like the xbox dashboard style

  • and we still can play our own music when playing games. microsoft let you do this years ago with the original xbox. sort it out sony.

  • where is cross game chat?????

that will be the best update.

  • Cross game chat ftw

  • Sony continues to steal their competition’s thunder. It has taken them long enough, but the inclusion of an internet browser, Blu-Ray player, the free-access Playstation Store, future Steam support from once critical Valve, the PS Move, and the bypass of I-Tunes with the ability to simply plug in an IPod and move media on and off with no copy-regulations shows that Sony is working to make a different kind of computer entertainment system: one that summarizes the majority of what computer users are doing today. And it certainly does more than its competitors. *Sigh* But the Xbox 360 is certainly cooler looking on the outside.

    • lol, the new xbox just took all the stuff the old ps3 dumped
      shiny case, touch buttons,
oh and it took them 4 years to finally put wifi inside it

  • when will this update be available on the PS websites… cause right now one can only get it via direct DL from your PS3 and thats slow as sh*t compared to doing it from the website to USB to PS3 console.

just SUCKS that an update to upgrade the online shop forces one to DL it and not be able to go online otherwise.

You wanna do an update i’ll like, then i suggest brining back the feature in your music playin to carry on playin even if you switch folders… aaah the good ol days.

keep it up… make us PROUDER.

  • I think they definitely have to get some more ps2 classics aswell. The main games that they would have to get are the kingdom hearts games they were brilliant, maybe update the graphics and put then on a the 1 disk like what they did with God of War 1 and 2

  • Vladimir Kolarov III

I agree with all of these comments but I would like san andreas to come as a PS2 classic, COME ON SONY, XBOX HAS IT ON THEIR MARKETPLACE, SO WHY SHOULDN’T THE BEST PS2 SELLING GAME OF ALL-TIME COME TO THE PS STORE???!!! PLUS I would like to see improvements to the XMB media bar and cross voice chat or watever xbox has thats good (not alot) except for paid online gaming

  • I want less system updates please.

  • As well still waiting to be able to play a 3D blu ray movie in a playsation 3 on a 3D tv come on sony.

  • cross game chat is available for psn plus users. if you do not have psn plus and you sit there saying you want an update that will include that then your stupid. if you ask me sony is starting to get a handle on things. they don’t charge for internet which is GREAT and you can buy psn plus which is VERY CHEAP if you want the litle bonus stuff such as cross game chat and a couple free games (some of which are actually pretty neat games) discount on ALOT of games on psn and their still adding more and more stuff to it.

  • Wait… My friends tell me the Xbox Market Place is really disorganized. I haven’t used the Market Place, but from what I hear, Sony offers better service, organization, etc.

  • i want the ps3 to recognize i tunes files so my music will be organized on the ps3

  • No moan here. Thanks for a great console. Why do people assume the right for everything they want?

  • Nothing Ness

Looks ok… hope it does something about facebook freezing my system everytime I go on. I dig that idea about more PS1 games, like isn’t it about damn time they make Suikoden 2 available? Or maybe some Parasite Eve?still, props to PSN for making Grandia available……. x-box sucks!!!

  • I agree with Barry, people demand/want too many things and all at once, Keep up the good work Sony.

  • So many “I want”s here. Be grateful for what you have. It takes time and hard work to make these FREE updates…

  • people wanting to see ps2 classics on psn. why don’t u just buy a 2nd hand ps2 for 20-40 smackeroonies and buy the games u want, unless u have 1st edition ps3 just buy the games. agree on music in games though. psHOME is skank and a waste of time and money which could better spen on getting polyphony to pull their fingers out for GT5, remember that? that is my num 1 wish. BUT COME ON GUYS IT’S FREE, and the more we complain/demand improvements the more tempted they may be.

  • here’s an idea. since i can already create a ps2 memory slot on my ps3 slim, how about throwing in the firmware update that lets me play my ps2 games.

  • i think most of the “wants” are simply based on what is available on another console. and has been for some time. and my opinion is that if sony concentrated a little less on how the console looks. or unbeatable ways to stop pirating (which is inevitable on any console). they could maybe put some of those resources into software development and be on par with microsoft. i own both consoles and i can say that microsoft makes you update your console to play online just like sony does. what microsoft doesnt do is take away core features and then force you to update or lose the feature. and i think where sony has covered their butt is that the dont require you to pay to play. and microsoft does. so really if you dont upgrade then you have no real case in court. but when you pay for that subscription and then they yank options and force you to chose you could file a class action. and in the end they would pay. sony is more worried about this kind of stuff then they are about offering a better experience then the competition. and this is why the xbox will always be better.

  • Great, Another update that accommodates Sony’s agenda and has absolutely no benefit for the consumer. How about fixing the built in WiFi or giving us cross game chat? Maybe the ability to play PAL discs or VCD/SVCD’s? I dont get to game much so I’m sick of having to update everytime I wanna use the PS3 to play a game. I should be able to just turn it on and go. Kind of like every other console out there. Also, it’s only a matter of time before the flash chip is burned out and the system is bricked from so many updates. Maybe this is part of Sony’s plan (Making money off the repairs of bricked consoles) I’m turned off by the whole Sony experience. My PS3 is now for sale.

  • I have a Playstation 3 and a X(kiss)Box and I think that the cross chatting and listening to music during games is the only good part of the kiss box(hence the reason i gave it to my kid). Playstation are better at everything else, but if they were to give an update so that we can use these features on Playstation then it would well kick the kiss boxes ass.

  • Enough with the store. Fix the stupid bluetooth drivers so they support more headsets.
