Pamela Smart Claims Innocence
After 20 years in prison, Pamela Smart, the teacher who slept with a student and convinced him and his friends to kill her husband, still maintains her innocence.
Smart is currently serving a life sentence for telling several teenage boys, one of whom she was sleeping with at the time, to murder her husband, Gregg Smart.
At the time she committed the crime, Smart was just 22 years old and working as a teacher’s aide in a New Hampshire high school.
Pamela Smart Claims Innocence
Smart, who is now 42 years old, recently told the Los Angeles Times recently that she thinks the decision to become involved with the youths who would eventually murder her husband was the “worst mistake” of her life.
However, to this day Smart maintains her innocence, claiming that she never asked the teens to kill her husband. Smart also says she never even insinuated that the youths should kill or hurt her husband.
The four teenagers who helped to commit the murder are now well into their 30’s. While two of them continue to serve prison sentences, two others who were associated with crime have already been paroled.
The plot of Pamela Smart’s story was adapted into a major motion picture in 1995. The film, called “To Die For,” featured Nicole Kidman in the lead role.
