There are no press pictures of Obama smoking or with a cigarette in hand, but the White House doctor today told the commander in chief that he should kick his habit. The results from the rest of Obama’s physical were positive, saying that Obama is fit for duty.

Obama Still smoking

Jeffrey Kuhlman, physician to the president, said Obama was in “excellent health” and “fit for duty,” in a memorandum to White House press secretary Robert Gibbs. Obama recently underwent his first physical examination as president, a routine physical meant to check Obama’s health, but also to give candid information to the American people on the status of the president’s health. Dr. Kuhlman noted, however, that Obama should “continue smoking cessation efforts.” The president, 48, also suffers from mildly high cholesterol.

The routine examination was performed at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda Maryland.  Amongst the examinations, the president had a CT-colonagraphy to screen for colon cancer, common for men of his age.  His doctor has recommended a follow up in five years.

According to the report, President Obama sometimes uses nicotine gum to help with his smoking habit. The report did not indicate how frequently Obama smokes, or whether he is permitted to smoke inside of the white house. Within the next year, will we still see Obama smoking?
