2010 marks the first year ever that the NFL will host the Pro Bowl before the Super Bowl and in a location other than Honolulu, Hawaii. Supporters of the new Pro Bowl format point out that fans who used to groan about the two week break between the conference championships and the Super Bowl now have something to watch during the week in between. In addition, some supporters also claim that the NFL players prefer the new location because it’s much closer to home for the vast majority of players.

On the other hand, detractors say that the new Pro Bowl’s talent pool is watered down because it does not include players from the two teams vying for the Super Bowl next Sunday, the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints. Between these two teams, some 14 players who were elected as All-Stars to the Pro Bowl will not be playing in the Pro Bowl on Sunday. This has led to many other players being selected as replacements who would never had made the Pro Bowl in previous years.
Nevertheless, the rosters on both squads are stacked with talent.
On the NFC side, second-year starter Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers will step in to lead at quarterback. Rodgers, who had a huge year, compiled a 103.2 quarterback rating with 30 touchdown passes and just 7 interceptions. At running back, the NFC will start all-world tailback Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings. At wide receiver, the NFC has two quick young guns: second year player Desean Jackson of the Philadelphia Eagles will start opposite Miles Austin of the Dallas Cowboys.
Meanwhile, the AFC team will start Matt Schaub, the former University of Virginia star who put together a 4,770 yard, 29 touchdown campaign for his Houston Texans in 2009. Schaub will get to throw to his favorite target, Abominable Andre Johnson, who also plays for the Texans, and Brandon Marshall of the Denver Broncos, who thrived this year despite negative press at the beginning of the season. Chris Johnson, who was arguably the most effective running back in the NFL this season, will be the starter behind the line.
