Reports suggest that Kevin Eubanks’ Tonight Show career may be coming to an end. Jay Leno’s musical sidekick could be leaving the Tonight Show tonight, after serving 18 years as the musician in waiting to Leno.
Rumours have been circulating about the future of Eubanks and his Tonight Show role, but these reports seem to be reaching a climax as K-EARTH Radio in LA broke the story, and it has since been confirmed in reports in the New York Times.
Kevin Eubanks Tonight Show
Kevin Eubanks joined The Tonight Show in 1992, as a normal member of the band. He became bandleader two years later, and has held that role ever since. He has been quoted as saying that he ‘wants a change’, and that there is no animosity between him and Leno.
There was no fixed date as to when Kevin Eubanks Tonight Show career would be coming to an end, but it will probably fall in the period before Leno goes back to his regular slot on March 1.
We will need to wait for official word on Eubanks departure before confirmation, as the AP has cited sources saying that Kevin Eubanks and The Tonight Show’s relationship is merely ‘uncertain’.
