There was yet another bombing in Pakistan today, where a bomb blew up a bus carrying Shiite Muslims. The Bombing took place in Karachi, Pakistan – a chaotic city of 16 million residents. The southern Pakistani city of Karachi has on Friday, suffered significant casualties – with at least 11 people dead, officials have announced.
The Karachi Blast that was witnessed today is nothing new – the city has seen a number of attacks aimed at minority Shiites in recent days and weeks including one that ended the life of dozens at a gathering for a religious holiday. Currently the blame is put on extremists from Pakistan’s Sunni Muslim majority. Karachi is known to be a place of political, ethnic and religious violence.
The attack, which analysts predict involved a bomb on a motorcycle, targeted a bus carrying Shia Muslims to a religious procession. Besides the dozen or so dead, about 50 people were severely injured.
Back in December of 2009, 43 people were killed in a Karachi Blast which the Taliban said they had carried out. As a response measure, troops were deployed in the city in order to calm down rival political groups.
