This Superbowl weekend marks the sixth anniversary of the Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction – or one of the most controversial, talked-about and downright amusing episodes in the history of professional sports and entertainment.

Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake were the main attractions in the Halftime show at Superbowl XXXVIII, and the fans seemed to be lapping up the show. They performed a number of hits, including ‘All for You’ and ‘Rhythm Nation’ – but it was what happened when they finished their final number that had commentators and newspapers in a spin.

Timberlake reached across and caused the world’s first wardrobe malfunction – a part of Jackson’s dress was ripped off to reveal her breast. This boob was then broadcast to a watching audience of millions – or perhaps even a billion people around the world.

Some viewers were horrified – some were excited – some didn’t really care. Debate raged for weeks in newspapers, on television and online regarding whether Jackson had planned the stunt, whether it was wrong or right and also whether the pair should be punished for their ‘crimes’.

To this very day, the Superbowl Halftime show is haunted by the memory of the Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction, and we will wait and see what is in store for us this year when the Colts and the Saints face off in Miami on Sunday.

  • REALLY? u r kidding right? get over it. it’d been way too long for this to continue to be a worthy topic of conversation. seriously. there are far too many things both good and bad that are current that you could be discussing. how about how the schools and colleges will, still to this day, throw money at and pass kids who can barely spell just because they can throw a football, yet some incredibly intelligent students can barely afford to go to a decent high school let alone college. just to add to our nations favorite game.

please, go find something else to write about already and maybe make a positive influence on someone for a change instead of continually trying to drag someone though the mire.

  • That is so mean of him
