The iPad Release Delayed
Apple is hoping to compete in the increasingly popular e-readers market featuring devices such as the Amazon Kindle, the Nook from Barnes and Noble, and the Reader from Sony. The iPad will be feature a color screen, and applications such as web browsing and e-mail. Apple CEO Steve Jobs has pitched the iPad as filling the space between the smartphone and the laptop, and says it allows for an improved we browsing experience over traditional laptops and smartphones. The first generation iPad will feature wifi capability, and the upgraded model, to be released in late April, will feature a 3g connection, for an extra monthly fee. Apple is calling the model a “tablet,” to distinguish it from its direct competitors who use the term e-reader, indicating its greater capabilities. The 16gb, wifi model is the lowest priced model at $499. 32gb and 64gb models are also available. The top of the line model will cost $829. Though the iPad release has been delayed, pre-orders can now be made starting March 12.
