1. Photo album or photo collage. If you’ve got a bunch of digital photos just sitting on your hard drive, consider printing them out and mounting them on a poster board or in a photo album. This type of gift is pretty cheap and it shows your partner that you’re spending time on them.

2. iTunes Gift Card. Here’s a gift that allows you to give a lot of different apps or songs for relatively little money. On the other hand, it suffers from the drawback of showing your partner exactly how much you spent on them.

3. Original Song. If you know how to play three chords on a guitar, you can write a short, cute song to your sweetheart. Try to make it as humorous as possible, including the words “I love you” at least once in the song, and preferably at the end.

4. Manual labor. If you know anything about how to give a back massage, a foot rub, or an Ayurvedic or Thai massage, this is your chance to shine. If your partner doesn’t like massages, you can always give other types of manual favors…

6. Original T-Shirt. Here’s an idea that only takes a little while to turn into reality. If you’ve got a funny or touching picture that you think represents your relationship, buy a cheap iron-on t-shirt setup, a white t-shirt, and put the picture on the shirt.

7. One Rose instead of 12. Who needs a dozen roses? If you’re strapped for cash, just pick up one rose and a box of chocolate. If your Valentine really knows you, she’ll understand the situation you’re in and be happy that you got them something symbolic of your love.
