In a big managerial change for Guus Hiddink, Turkey will welcome him as their new manager when his current contract with Russia expires. His current agreement runs until the 30 June, at which time he will take over the reigns of a promising Turkey side.

Turkey, however, will not be taking part in this year’s World Cup finals, after failing to qualify. Russia too did not qualify for the World Cup, and after that performance he announced that he would be leaving the club. Guus Hiddink’s relationship with Turkey is not very deep, but he met with the Turkish Football Federation chairman and vice-chairman in Amsterdam last Tuesday – and they agreed on a four year deal which will make him the manager for four years, of which two will be optional.

Even though Guus Hiddink and Turkey are now inseparable, there were a lot of rumours about the possibility of him becoming England manager before – however, he was loyal to his Russian contract. Rumours more recently have put him as a possible manager of Nigeria after their coach Shaibu Amodu was given his marching orders by the Super Eagles.

It remains to be seen if Guus Hiddink and Turkey can recreate the success that he has seen Real Madrid and South Korea.

  • Whatever the outcome will be, qualifying or not for Turkey, they will profit from Hiddink. He is exceptionally good at recognising talent en making players better. His influence on mental aspects is the biggest quality, he is the extra backbone for the players.
