Mark Webber is going into this GP with the pole position, just narrowly edging Lewis Hamilton by a tiny fraction of a second. Robert Kubica of Renault is third, while Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull-Renault is in fourth position. Michael Schumacher has penalized 10 positions for his dangerous driving in last week’s race and will be hoping to get off to a good start if he is to add to his point total in the driver standings.

Webber was already the favorite heading into this one as the leader in the driver’s championship. However pole position hardly guarantees him the victory at Spa with only 13 pole sitters having won here in Belgium in 53 years. Lewis Hamilton will fancy his chances at getting that all important 10 points. The Englishmen had a chance to grap pole position but some smoke and a dry race track prevented him from racing in optimal conditions. Several other drivers including Kubica, Vettel, Button, and Massa also seem to feel confident in this track so it’s really anyone’s race for the taking.
