David Cameron Big Society
London, England, United Kingdom (AHN) – British Prime Minister David Cameron will launch on Monday the Big Society. The movement will strengthen local communities by granting them the power and funds to handle various services.

Among the things that local communities could do under the Big Society are to operate bus services, establish broadband internet networks and run community recycling programs.
Cameron will use the launch of the Big Society to hit the previous Labor-led government for making public employees disillusioned, weary puppets and turning communities into dull, soulless clones. The Big Society will attempt to reverse that by permitting individuals to band voluntarily to solve community problems.
The British coalition government chose four groups to submit applications to the Big Society Bank for funding of projects, which they petitioned Downing Street to run themselves. The four are the greater London borough of Sutton and Cheam, the Berkshire council of Windsor and Maidenhead, the Eden Valley in Penrith, Cumbria, and the city of Liverpool.
The Big Society Fund pooled dormant bank accounts with hundreds of millions of pounds to help finance social enterprises, charities and voluntary groups. The amount of money in the Big Society Fund is estimated at $600 million (400 million pounds).
During the campaign, Cameron pushed for the concept of a Big Society. At that time polls indicated that two out of three voters have not heard of the concept, which was considered too vague and intangible to get votes.
Cameron admitted he expected financial, legal and bureaucratic problems, as well as objections to the Big Society launch.
