Chicago, IL, United States (AHN) – An off-duty Chicago, Illinois, police officer was shot and killed following his shift Sunday.

Officer Michael Bailey, a 20-year veteran of the department who had received numerous commendations, was shot outside his home on the south side of Chicago around 6 a.m., police reported.

He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where medical officials pronounced him dead at 6:40 a.m.

Police do not have a suspect in the shooting as of yet.

Bailey, 62, worked Chicago’s central business district, according to department spokesman John Mirabelli.

He was the third Chicago officer killed since May.

  • So sad. May he rest in peace, and his family feel peace knowing that he dedicated his life to saving others and making the streets of Chicago more safe. RIP
