Avatar becomes highest grossing film ever

Science fiction epic movie Avatar has becoming the highest grossing movie of all time around the world. It has passed the previous leader, Titanic, with more than $1.86 billion taken across the globe in ticket sales at the box office.

It is a remarkable story for a film which many people thought would never be made, and has been in various forms of production for nearly a decade.

The film, which focuses on a number of different stories, was written by James Cameron, the Director of the love story Titanic. He also edited, produced and wrote Avatar.

Some people thought that this movie, which has been his ongoing project since the mid 90s, might never be made – as his perfectionist attitude meant difficulties along the way.

The story focuses on a man who takes the place of his brother aboard a space ship bound for a far-away planet, and become embroiled in a fight between developers and a peaceful, nature-bound race.

The movie has set records across the globe for ticket sales and when it is released on DVD there are expectations that it could win more plaudits. It is a great achievement for a film which does not feature many big-name actors.
