Seven lucky American Idol semi-final contestants have found out that all of their (short term) dreams have come true – they’re in the semi-finals of the annual televised singing competition. The semi-finals of American Idol will feature 24 contestants, and the first seven have been named.

The final 17 contestants will be announced on Wednesday, at the end of the auditions during “Hollywood Week”.

The magnificent seven American Idol semi-final contestants are Didi Benami, 23, from Los Angeles; Lee Dewyze, 23, from Mount Prospect, Ill.; Katelyn Epperly, 19, from West Des Moines, Iowa; Aaron Kelly, 16, from Sonestown, Pa.; Casey James, 27, from Fort Worth, Texas; Todrick Hall, 24, from Arlington, Texas; and Michael “Big Mike” Lynche, 26, from Astoria, N.Y.

All of the lucky contestants were thrilled to make it into the semis, with many contacting friends and families. Didi Benami had perhaps the most moving story, claiming that the angel of her friend, who recently passed away, is helping her from heaven.

Michael ‘Big Mike’ Lynche is fast becoming a fan favourite, and he was seen giving his newborn child a call – and his message for his daughter? “Coming to take care of you. Big Daddy’s coming.”

It will be an interesting next week, as we find out the rest of the American Idol semi-final contestants, and learn more about the ones who have already made it.
