300th Soldier Killed in Afghanistan
The UK confirmed that the 300th solider killed in Afghanistan happened earlier today. After it was known that the 300th solider had died in Afghanistan, David Cameron released a press statement telling how sorry it was that it had come to this.
300th Soldier Killed in Afghanistan
The 300th soldier hailed from 40 Commando, a Royal Marine, who died in a hospital specialising in combat victims in Birmingham. He had been injured in an explosion in Helmand province earlier in the month.
David Cameron stated that all loss of life in the conflict was tragic and although this loss was no greater or worse that the 299th death, he noted that it was a significant milestone. Having so many die in a war that has been raging for 9 years has not sat well with the British public.
For many, the 300th soldier killed in Afghanistan represents a toll that is becoming too great to justify with such little tangible gains in a country that has seen little progress both on the battlefield and politically. The sustained comments from the British government that they are safekeeping British safety is wearing thin with little benefit seeming to be had from remaining in the country.
